How do I play?
Get from the start word to the goal word, one step at a time. Each step must be a real word that is one letter different from the word before it: add a letter, remove a letter, or change a letter. Try to finish in as few steps as possible. The full rules are in How to Play.
When does a new puzzle come out?
Every day at midnight, in your own time zone. You can play earlier days from Play More.
I lost my progress, or it isn't on my other device
Your progress is saved in the browser you play in. It isn't shared between browsers or devices, and clearing your browser's data for this site removes it. Private or incognito windows forget it when they close.
Can I play offline?
Yes. After your first visit, the daily puzzle works without a connection. Friend challenges need to be online.
Can I add Leven to my home screen?
Yes. On iPhone or iPad, tap Share in Safari, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open the Chrome menu and tap Install app or Add to Home screen. On a computer, look for the install icon in the address bar.
A challenge code doesn't work
Codes are eight digits. Check them with the person who sent it. Challenges expire 24 hours after they're created, and an expired code can't be opened.
Why wasn't my word accepted?
Leven checks every word against its own word list, which leaves out some rare words, proper nouns and abbreviations. If you think a word should count, email it to us.
